What concerns the Danish population about the corona crisis?
Researchers from the Department of Public Health at the University of Copenhagen, in collaboration with Epinion, have asked Danish residents from three different target groups to complete a questionnaire about their mental health, social isolation, loneliness, and concerns about the current corona crisis. Three groups are being targeted with the questionnaire: 1) people over the age of 65; 2) families with children; and 3) a sample of the general population between the ages of 18 and 85.

Two hundred individuals from each of the target groups (600 people in total) have already completed the questionnaire. Of particular note, in each of the three groups, three out of every four participants indicated that they were worried about a close relative becoming seriously ill.
With the older segment of the population at especially high risk of becoming seriously ill or dying from COVID-19, special precautions are in place to prevent them from becoming infected with the virus. Although these measures are undoubtedly important, results from the questionnaire also suggest that they may be leaving many older people in fear of not being able to see their family and friends. It is also older people who are most concerned about becoming seriously ill.
This project has partnered with the Danish newspaper Politiken, which is publishing an ongoing series of articles about the corona crisis along with our research results. You can read the first article at politiken.dk.
