As the lockdown eases, people are less likely to avoid public transportation, traveling, and physical contact

Researchers from the Department of Public Health at the University of Copenhagen, in collaboration with Epinion, have asked Danish residents from three different target groups which precautions they are taking to avoid being infected by the COVID-19 virus. The three target groups are: 1) people over the age of 65; 2) families with children; and 3) a sample of the general population between the ages 18 and 85. One hundred people from each of the three target groups answered the questionnaire every third day from 20 March until 16 April; since then, they are answering once a week until the end of June 2020. The analyses below were updated on 4 June.

Throughout the lockdown in Denmark, almost all of the respondents reported washing their hands and using hand sanitiser more often as well as keeping physical distance from other people; however, fewer than 10% have been covering their mouths and noses when in public places. As the lockdown has begun to ease, all three target groups reported that they are less likely to avoid public transportation, traveling, and physical contact. Nevertheless, older people still seem to be avoiding physical contact with everyone to a greater extent than families with children and the general population.
